MALAYSIA RATIFIES THE ASEAN CONVENTION AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS, ESPECIALLY WOMEN AND CHILDREN (ACTIP), 7 SEPTEMBER 2017

Ratification ACTIP

Malaysia deposited its instrument of ratification of the ASEAN Convention Against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children (ACTIP) with the ASEAN Secretariat today, 7 September 2017. Malaysia’s instrument of ratification was presented by H.E. Dato’ Shariffah Norhana Syed Mustaffa, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN to H.E. Hirubalan V P, Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) of ASEAN for Political-Security Community.


The Convention, which was signed by the ASEAN Leaders on 21 November 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, entered into force on 8 March 2017. This ratification signifies Malaysia's steadfast solidarity with its ASEAN neighbours and commitment to its international obligations on anti-trafficking in persons, especially women and children. 


Malaysia strongly believes that ASEAN’s collective application of this convention and related instruments will foster closer cooperation and collaboration among the Member States in the fight against trafficking.

ASEAN DAY: 50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

14 AUGUST 2017, KUALA LUMPUR

In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia will be organizing the national level ASEAN Day: 50th Anniversary Celebration on 14 August 2017 at Suria KLCC, Kuala Lumpur.

The event will be officiated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul RazakThe Deputy Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman, as well as several other Ministers are also expected to be present at the event. The event will also involve several Senior Government officials, the Heads of Mission from ASEAN Member States and ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners based in Kuala Lumpur, members of the academia, think tanks, civil society organisations, university students, schoolchildren and the general public.

In commemorating the golden jubilee, the ASEAN Day: 50th Anniversary Celebration aims at promoting greater awareness of ASEAN, enhance public understanding and instil a deeper sense of belonging among the citizens of Malaysia.

In this regard, the Centre Court of Suria KLCC will be filled with fun, and educational activities which are open to the public. Among the activities planned are a panel discussion on ASEAN, a talk on tips travelling abroad, a consular booth, interactive sessions and quizzes for children as well as cultural performances from the National Department for Culture and Arts. ASEAN embassies in Kuala Lumpur are also expected to participate in the ASEAN Day: 50th Anniversary Celebration.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is proud to collaborate with various partners in making this event a success, including the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Pos Malaysia, and Suria KLCC, in promoting and creating awareness about ASEAN at the national level.
